Nice interaction today with the Russian-speaking receptionist at my rehab place. A crane landed in the lagoon outside the center and the word zhuravl’ popped out. She was quite impressed.
That goes along with my Advanced Vocabulary list. I’m working on it now, picking words from my Urdu textbook (Barker) and Modern Greek Reader I by Farmakides, comparing word lists before moving on to advanced lists, which are the 3-5 K words in order of frequency.
I’ve thimble in several languages and other such gems, like crane.
I also checked out Russian “sinecure” with her – tyoploye mestechko, and she confirmed it.
