Terrorism

My blog says little on terrorism other than to remind people that the oldest terrorist group in the world is the KKK. I read in Max Boot’s Invisible Armies that terrorist groups are almost never successful in reaching their goal….. almost. Two of the successful groups sprang up at the beginning of the terrorism era (last half of the 19th c.) and both were American! John Brown, whose terrorist attacks on pro-slavery people played a large role in sparking the Civil War which ultimately ended slavery, his goal, and the KKK, which sprang up just after the Civil War and did install Jim Crow for the next 100 years (using the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as the end point). There was a break between the first KKK and its reincarnation in 1915, but I’d say most of us think of it as continuous. So there you are.
