Lest we forget……..

Here is an excerpt from an article on the Birther movement:

Two separate fact-checking organizations, FactCheck.org and PolitiFact, concluded the document was authentic. A reporter for the Honolulu Advertiser turned up two separate newspaper birth announcements, one in his own paper on Aug. 13, 1961 and another in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin the next day. Both said, “Mr. and Mrs. Barack H. Obama, 6085 Kalanianaole Highway, son, Aug. 4.”

Still, questions persist.

There is no issue here. The Birthers embody a throwback to the days of yore, when a person’s racial origin was crucial in determining one’s place in society. The Birthers are making clear that Barack Obama falls on the side that has no rights, on the Black side. That means no membership in church, none in a labor union, no right to an attorney, no right to own anything more than the poorest White man, no right to drive a nice car, and, most of all, no right to any White woman.

Yes, this is exactly “where these people are coming from”. They are today’s equivalent of those pictures from the 20s and 30s of lynch mobs grinning at the side of a hanged Black man. They want nothing more than to put Obama in his place, to deprive him of anything he has rightly earned. We have seen this behavior on the part of Whites over and over, the stripping from a Black man of any rights, property or honors.

In order to mask their intent, these folks side-step the racial issue and transform it into one of nationality. It’s a ruse that fools no one. We all know exactly what they are saying: there is no way a n….. can win the White House. Just as ball games between Whites and Blacks were thrown in favor of the Whites, so this election was intended to be overthrown.

The fact that it didn’t work despite efforts at the highest levels of the Republican Party testifies to the decline in the racist mentality of the older generation. Being almost 70, I recognize these people; I was raised with them. To them, being Black is a joke, and any recognition accorded a Black is an affront to them, just as two homosexuals marrying is considered an affront to male/female marriage.

To extend any respect or honor to these people is the real joke. The Birthers and their allies, the Tea Partiers, deserve nothing but contempt. Their rights will be respected but let nothing erase their vicious and supremely stupid behavior at the election of the first (maybe not) Blac president of the U.S.
