Solecisms # 12 Classic solecisms

These are the ones beloved of English teachers, grammar mavens, curmudgeons, and grumps.
 
“I’ll bet they….” in reply to a kid who said a teacher (unspecified) did something.   – me (highly educated)
 
Word mix-ups: invidious for envious.
 
“With Karen and I teaching….” English teacher
 
“Lay down.”  English teacher
 
 
“…. hating us for whom we are….” My favorite because it illustrates the poor hold we have on ’whom’, where here the ’for’ goes with the phrase, which is “Who we are”. And, also it’s my favorite because the person who uttered this is……. a classicist.
