Here’s a usage of mine that I’ve heard commonly spoken but I don’t understand: “I wished I had it” instead of “I wish I had it.” Anyone want to explain this?

“She’s trying to join Althea Gibson as the only Black woman to have won this Open” – well then, Althea wouldn’t be the only one, right?
