Overheard on the radio, an Indian speaking excellent, academic English with an accent, said “Fifty percent of the times”. I know I make errors like that, “mistakes”, Rod Ellis would call them, i.e. I know better but my performance is below my competence and I do this in Spanish all the time. However, this man spoke much better English than I do Spanish, and I wonder what happens that those “mistakes” or “errors” are still made at such an advanced stage I would say between ILR 4 and 5, way about ACTFL Superior. If the speaker had taken a test of English grammar or had written out what he was saying, he would surely have written “50% of the time”.
