Common item or cultural heritage?

Another insight into African cultural survivals vs universals: stilt walking.
Stilt walking is practiced in many cultures but it is esp common in Africa, incl. dancing on stilts. We were looking at a show on anthropology and a village in West Africa, Cameroons, was shown and there people were walking on stilts. My wife exclaimed: “Oh, we used to do that, nail cans onto boards and walk on them.” Now, is that just walking on stilts or is that something passed down from African practice?
