Sarah Palin used a Russian word in her speech at the anti-Iran deal rally, fortochka. I forget the equivalent she gave it, something like escape hatch, but it refers to the little window-within-a-window in Russian homes that allows you to get fresh air during the freezing winter without opening the whole window. It is an apt simile. Maybe she can at least hear Russia from her house (actually, Tina Fey on SNL said that).
I like the word because it may fall into that category of cultural words, a word for something other cultures don’t have, a hinged window-pane in a larger window-pane.
