A couple I’ve started on plus the NYT

Carol Ross Stacey put me on to my favorite linguist’s book, The Language Hoax, and I’m reading it. Just think it through, seems to be McWhorter’s motto. I will put onto my linguistics category some of the more interesting things he gives us.
I am reading Samuel Pepys’ diary, an edited version. So far, I have read only a page of it but came away with quite a few terrific examples of the English of the period that I can comment on. I will put the comments in my What English Teachers Don’t Know category.
The biggest change in my reading has been getting the NYT starting Nov. 12. It’s a slog to read everything I am interested in and will require some adjustment to my schedule of reading in my circuit and other reading, but tons of articles will feed this blog nicely.
