What’s wrong with a first edition of Proust?

I have googled till my finger tips are bleeding and cannot find out what the problem is with the 1927 Gaillimard paperback edition Proust’s A la recherché du temps perdu. It’s what I have and am reading and the late Roger Shattuck, as with everyone else, refers only to later editions. All I want to do is read the work in French. Is there an issue with this edition?
