In The Wise Men I am just reading about McCloy’s efforts to bring Europe together right after WW II. His success in this endeavor was due to, in part, his personality; he was trusted by all parties for his sincerity and good will.
How seldom we see people in high places who possess those qualities. However, from time to time, someone will display such qualities and it is wonderful but it makes you wonder why they don’t display them all the time.
Who knew that McCloy’s Mr. Hyde would be elected Rresident about 65 years later.
