Reading of the Republican reaction to Truman firing McArthur, my thoughts turned to Louie Gohmert and Trey Gowdy and Darrell Issa and so on. All the crazies saying “the sob should be impeached”, ” the bastard who calls himself President,” and “the country is in the hands of a secret inner coterie which is directed by agents of the Soviet Union,” and so on. Truman’s sin was to fire a general who had defied direct orders from Washington over and over. His actions had brought China into the war in Korea and now he wanted to attack China directly, “unleash” Chiang-Kai Shek onto the Chinese mainland, blockade the China coast and bomb industrial centers. Brilliant. Like the Soviets were going to stand by on that one.
