When parents act

My son told me about five parents wrote letters to the school telling them of my son’s influence on their children….. all very positive. Now these are parents living in a poor area of town, very concentrated ethnically (Mexican-American and Mexican), who supposedly take little interest in school, let alone write letters in approbation of a teacher. Yet one even came to his classroom to tell him how her daughter, who had previously detested school, now loves coming to school.

I remember my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Clark. He did make you excited to come to school.

How do we recruit and retain such teachers? Won’t the Chamber of Commerce take up this issue? Or do they just plan to hire immigrants in their businesses?
