I just this minute got in on the end of an old Randolph Scott movie whose name is, I am pretty sure, Thunder Over The Plains, 1953. But at the end, the coda shocked even me:
And so brave men like Cpt. so-and-so ended corruption across Texas, “chased out the carpet baggers and turned government over to the people.” An open declaration in favor of the end of Reconstruction and turning the states over to the Whites who proceeded over several years to return African-Americans to a state of near slavery. I have never heard an American movie of the last half of the 20th century so blatantly appeal to the Southern interpretation of history.
