A friend shared with me a set of dormitory rules from Arizona State College (now NAU) in Flagstaff from around the 50s. Students could have a rifle and a shotgun but no handguns. That’s is Arizona in a relatively rural area….
(the population in 1950 was 6771 and in 1960 18,214, so when I see the sheet I’ll try to get a specific date because it’s obvious the town exploded, as some many Arizona towns did, in the 50s. (when I got to Phoenix in 1951, the population of Phoenix was 106,818, now it’s 1,660,272).
