Republicans and conservatives (same thing these days) live on stereotypes. Stereotypes are the bedrock of the way they think, especially about people. Here is an example from Robert Jones (The Death of White Christianity): in a conversation with an evangelical friend of his, one who ranks high in the evangelical community, he heard his friend label three statements of his as “common sense” or “it stands to reason.” Yet these three statements are heard only in the evangelical community (Jones himself is an evangelical).
It is this total belief and faith in stereotypes that propel Reservatives (am I the first to coin that?) to grand sweeps of political theory. It is similar to the economists’ rational individual making rational choices in their economic behavior; he does not exist.
