This category has been sore neglected so when I came across a list of buzzwords I thought, “Hey! A trove! I can list one of these daily and show alternatives that are less buzzy, fresher.”
However, in keeping with the original intent (me and Scalia) of this category, I will start with a word used by Charlie Sykes in The Bulwark this morning: etiolate. Basically a horticultural term meaning to blanch or make pale, used first of celery so whitened, it has come to be used by extension or metaphor as Charlie did: “… their etiolated consciences.” Apparently indicating the pallor of near-death. I like it.
