Know your preferred learning channel

I read a lot. When I want to learn a language, I read it. That works OK for me normally, but with Korean I am hung up on the vocabulary; I just don’t retain it. I recognize words but not as well as I do in other languages – all I-E. Korean is my first non-I-E language. Production is another matter entirely.
Just a couple of days ago I thought to myself, “What do I always say about learning a language? Hear it. That’s what.” Why is that? My learning style or channel is very clearly auditory. I retain things I hear.
So I recorded some Korean I had been reading and then listened to it. Lo and behold, stuff started to stick. It was a “no, duh” experience.
