Stop using words like ‘quite.’ Quite is a mollifier, and softener, a ameliorator, and it smoothes over harsh, true statements.
Susan Collins has made the word ‘concerned’ notorious. I am concerned that your house is in flames. Really serious, huh?
In the same vein, from Anand Giridharadas: “Call it a purge, not a buyout. Call it a coup against Congress, not a spending pause. Call it censorship, not a review. Words matter, and we in the media have a chance to do better this time.”
